Easter Celebration in St John the Evangelist Church, Pangla, Shankerpura
The Faithful of Pangla celebrated Easter on Saturday night to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Gathered and large numbers in the church grounds to bay obeisance and renew the baptismal oath during Easter vigil mass.
Asst. Parish Priest Rev fr. Royson Fernandes blessed the holy fire before the ceremony and lit the Pascal candle on the church grounds began with prayers. He then embedded five grains of incense in the holy and glorious wounds, may Christ the Lord guard us and protect us. Amen.
The candle was then processed through the altar. Fr Royson Fernandes lifted the candle at three different times, singing : the light of of Christ (lumen Christi), next followed by the Glorious Easter song the catholic church : the exulted (Easter proclamation). During the Easter vigil five readings were proclaimed from both old and new testaments. In the homily chief celebrant rev fr. Royson fernandes highlighted the significance of Easter and called Easter as “ Feast of Peace “. After the homily the Easter water was blessed. Part of the liturgy included the sprinkle of the water and all renewed their baptismal promises.
The Parish Priest Rev fr Ferdinand Gonsalves wished the Easter wishes to all and thanked all those who had helped in conducting liturgical and other supporting services on holy week. The entire parish community participated meaningfully on this Eucharistic celebration
